From Easter of 2007, the classic 1970s open-top bus will once again be a familiar sight on Hayling Island.

Restored and updated to provide a traditional yet innovative experience for residents and visitors, the bus will also regularly support local charitable causes.

People might be interested in a nostalgic celebration on Hayling Island where a couple of local businessmen chums John Rhodes and Simon Burness are bringing back the halcyon days of the traditional seaside resort with an open-top bus service.

They found the old bus in a pub car park and bought it (after an, ever so slightly, heavy lunch) since then it has now been lovingly restored.  They are hoping that the bus will be used for runs along the seafront and trips around the island and the local area to heritage sites.

The bus will also be driven around Hayling Island on a regular basis and anyone wishing to take advantage of a cost effective means of advertising by sponsoring the bus can contact Simon Burness on 07967 577 477 for a quote on advertising either on the sides of the bus or on the inside.

This is sure to be popular as it works out much cheaper on a daily basis than advertising in any newspaper and is likely to be seen by a lot more people.  Links to our sponsors’ websites from this one are an added bonus!

The ‘maiden voyage’ of the bus took place during the afternoon of Easter Sunday  (April 8th, 2007)  where people enjoyed a jolly jaunt along the seafront.

Guests gathered at Delia’s Diner at Eastoke Corner with a buffet and other refreshments available. The Mayor of Havant cut the ribbon and was kind enough (in his other role as a qualified bus driver) to take the wheel and drive the bus for its first trip along Hayling Island seafront. Following the launch ceremony, the bus took passengers on the seafront road to and from Hayling Ferry.

The whole day was in support of the Emma Carter British Heart Foundation Nurse Appeal.
